F.A.Q.s
Who are Joshua, Becca, and London Martin?
Joshua Becca and London are the professors who bring the heart, humor, and chaos to Musicology University. They’ve been part of the show since the very beginning and were instrumental in shaping the mix of music trivia, pop culture commentary, and pure mayhem that defines every episode. When they’re not arguing over 80s lyrics or guitar tones, they’re helping build out the Musicology community behind the scenes.
You can learn more about them — and the rest of the team — on our Meet the Faculty page.
Why is the show called Musicology University?
It started as a running joke during one of our earliest recording sessions — a tongue-in-cheek name for a trivia show that somehow manages to blend academic-level music knowledge with college-dorm-level banter. Over time, “Musicology University” stuck, and now it represents exactly what the show is: a place to learn, laugh, and compete in the wild world of music trivia.
What kind of show is this, anyway?
Think of Musicology University as part game show, part comedy roundtable, and part chaotic family dinner. Each week, Professors lead a rotating group of contestants through rounds of trivia, banter, and ridiculous debates about music history, pop hits, and deep-cut lyrics.
How can I listen to the show?
You can stream Musicology University anywhere you get podcasts — Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, or directly from our website at www.musicologyuniversity.com.
If you’re a Patreon supporter, you’ll also get access to our bonus episodes, archives, and Musicology After Dark, available through your private RSS feed. Most podcast apps (like Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, or Overcast) will let you add your private feed easily — but note that Spotify and Pandora won’t support those private links.
What is the Patreon and how does it work?
Patreon is how our listeners help support the show and keep it growing. When you join, you’ll get access to exclusive content, behind-the-scenes updates, and even opportunities to appear on the show. The more you support, the more connected you become to the Musicology community — from bonus archives and Discord access to on-air guest spots.
You can learn more and sign up at Patreon.com/MusicologyUniversity.
How do you pick guests for the show?
We get this one a lot! Most of our guests come from our Patreon community. Our patrons help shape the show — they vote on themes, suggest trivia questions, and occasionally join the panel. We try to balance things between returning favorites and new voices from our growing community.
If you’re a patron and interested in joining, keep an eye on announcements in our Discord or Facebook group — or send us a message to let us know you’re ready to test your trivia chops!
Why does it take so long to get on the show?
Simply put — there are a lot of awesome people who want to join! We’re thrilled (and a little overwhelmed) by how much support we’ve gotten. We record in small batches to keep quality high, so spots can fill up quickly. But don’t worry — we’re constantly rotating guests and creating new formats to get as many supporters involved as possible.
Is this a family-friendly podcast?
Let’s just say mostly. We keep it fun, funny, and clever — but we’re not above a good innuendo or an occasional bleep-worthy moment. If you can handle the humor of shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine or The Office, you’ll fit right in.
Where do the episodes come from?
We record out of Orlando, Florida, surrounded by too many guitars, too many opinions, and not enough coffee. Every episode is independently produced and edited by the Musicology University team.
How did the show start?
It all began with late-night music debates, bad jokes, and one too many “remember that band?” conversations. Joshua and Becca had been playing trivia together for years and realized their favorite part of every game was the chaos between questions. They teamed up with London Martin to turn that energy into a podcast — and Musicology University was born.
How can I get involved?
Easy — join our Facebook Group! That’s where we share updates, trivia polls, and behind-the-scenes sneak peeks. You can also support us on Patreon or just spread the word by sharing your favorite episode with friends who love music, laughter, and a bit of friendly competition.
